Astoria
Celestials/Servitors - Divine beings that serve a deity Agathions, Angels, Archons, Azatas, Psychopomps, Aeons, Inevitables
Demons - Exist without material forms. Encourage mortals to commit their particular sin. Eventually taking over the body of their prey and using it to further spread their influence and create more demons. While if left to their whims, demons might end existence, that is not their desire. They much rather spend eternity enjoying their whims and encouraging mortals to take part.
Devils - ???‘s proposed system of the universe where a hierarchy of all sentient beings is established with them at the top of course. Basically a pyramid scheme.
Fiends - Beings from beyond that seek to end existence. Asuras, Qlippoth, Daemons, Divs, Sahkil, Qlippoth, Demodands, Velstracs
Lost Omens Setting
Typical Life Cycle of Souls
- Soul energy originates on the positive energy plane
- Passes into the material plane, where it takes up resistance in a body
- Soul lives out its life in the body until it eventually dies
- Soul arrives at the Boneyard (Neutral Outer Plane) to be judged by Pharasma
- Pharasma sends souls to the plane that most matches their actions during their life
- Upon the arriving in their new planar home the souls become a petitioner
- Possibly the soul grows into higher forms of the beings of that plane
The Abyss
Demons [CE] Petitioners take the form of larvae that will evolve after some time and become a demon based on the soul’s largest sin. Some greater demons require multiple larvae to be created while some larvae become multiple lesser demons. Once formed, a demon’s driving goals are twofold - the amassing of personal power, and the corruption of mortal souls to cause them to become tainted by sin.
Qlippoth [CE] The original creatures of the Abyss. Since the rise of mortal sin and the associated expansion of demonic life through the Abyss, qlippoth have been driven to the deepest reaches of the Abyss, and they seethe with rancor at the loss of their realms. Yet rather than directly oppose demons, qlippoth instead turn to the source - mortal sin - and wage an endless war to eradicate all creatures capable of sinful acts so that the demonic tide might be turned back.
Demodands [CE] Created by the Thanatotic titan who rebelled against the gods and were banished to the Abyss. Due to each being made with a spark of divinity the weakest among them are stronger then most outsiders.
Hell
Devils [LE]
Asuras [LE] Asuras are a race of outsiders whose origins can be traced back to a divine accident or misdeed. They live to sow mischief and strife among the mortals of the Material Plane and the gods of the Outer Sphere alike.
Velstracs [LE]
Abaddon
Daemons [NE] Petitioners destined for the plane of Abaddon are allowed to instead go to Hell or the Abyss. It is a harsh realm where most petitioners become prey for the daemons, the ones that manage to instead prey on others become daemons themselves. Each kind of daemon represents a different way to die, and their powers are nearly always aimed at spreading that particular form of death. Through the use of these powers, they seek to drag all existence down into a pit of hopelessness and despair, and to commit all souls to oblivion.
Divs [NE] Rather than being created from petitioners of mortal souls, they are created from the souls of evil and betrayed genies. They seek to thwart and ruin the schemes and works of mortal beings.
Sahkil [NE] Sahkils are former psychopomps who rebel against their role as soul shepherds for the River of Souls. Their knowledge of multiversal entropy drives them away from their service to reform themselves into dominating horrors of the Ethereal Plane.
